Disney passed on Harry Potter publishing rights; may be poised to get them back
The Aspiring Aspirer over at Jim Hill Media.com has all the details. It seems one Lisa Holton passed on North American publishing rights after reading a copy of The Philosopher’s Stone, but who is now working for Harry Potter publisher Scholastic.
Choice quote from the article:
So now – with the former Senior V.P. of Global Disney Children’s Books recently installed as the new head of Scholastic, Inc. – could the crucial puzzle pieces finally be in place? Could the Walt Disney Company now be getting ready to acquire the company that publishes the North American editions of “Harry Potter” ?
Read the whole thing - it’s really quite interesting.

Ah Disney. Love the company but they make some REALLY dumb decisions. They passed on Star Wars to make a Herbie movie. They passed on ET to make another Herbie movie. They passed on Harry Potter. Amazing!!!
