Casting Call
Each new Harry Potter book introduces a bevy of new characters. Every time I read a new character, I can’t help but wonder who will play them in the movie. We are now more than halfway through the movies, but there are still a ton of characters to be introduced, unless Warner Bros. ruthlessly cuts them all out. Here are a few that still need to be cast and my picks for who should play them.
Mundungus Fletcher- I really hope they don’t try to cut this character. They could do it, but it would just make a lot of holes in the plot that they would have to fill with something else, especially in book 6, plus I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Mundungus in book 7. I think Bob Hoskins would make a great Mundungus Fletcher.
Nymphadora Tonks- I really hope they don’t cut Tonks. I also hope they bring back Lupin for movie 5, otherwise Tonks won’t make a terrible lot of sense. Let’s see, Keira Knightley might make a pretty good Tonks, or if we want her to be a bit older, how about Kate Winslet?
Bellatrix Lestrange- Here’s a juicy role. I’ve heard many nominations for this role, but I think Catherine Zeta-Jones would be awesome. People forget that she’s actually from Wales, because she’s married to Michael Douglas. Bellatrix is supposed to be someone who was once beautiful in a sort of dark and sensual way. Catherine Zeta-Jones is beautiful now in that way, and a little makeup would have you convinced that she’s just spent 15 years in Azkaban.
Narcissa Malfoy- Draco’s mother makes her first appearance in book 4, but she’s not in the film, still I feel like she must make it in at least in movie 6, where she plays a short but pivotal role in making Snape take an Unbreakable Vow. I think Nicole Kidman with blond hair could play her perfectly, but I don’t know if the filmmakers would bend their “all British actors” rule enough to allow an Australian to play her.
Horace Slughorn- I’d like to see Sir Anthony Hopkins in this role. Slughorn strikes me as this guy who’s obsessed with powerful people and what they can give him, but he also has this great dignity and actually a fair bit of courage. I mean think about it, he’s a Slytherin, but he doesn’t succumb to the pressure to be like most other Slytherins. He’s not prejudiced against half-blood or muggle born students and he refuses to become a Death Eater. He only changes his memory because he’s deeply ashamed of his actions which in his eyes, caused Voldemort to rise to power. (Personally, I’m pretty sure Voldemort would have figured out what horcruxes were whether Slughorn told him or not.)
Obviously, these are not all the new roles which will have to be cast, just ones for which I have a clear idea of who should play them. I’d be really interested in anyone else’s ideas for casting the coming Potter movies. Takers, anyone?

I dressed up as Tonks for Halloween. I don’t have the connections, or I would definitely try to ask them to even see me. I can do any accent, ask my students. There’s a couple of pictures of me on my blog under Happy Halloween. I’d love to know what you think.
Thanks!

I don’t have a website up, but my ambition is to play Horace Slughorn. I have the physical appearance for the role and I have fantastic acting ability, so I could be whomever you wanted me to be. If there is anyone who might be able to tell me who I can get in touch with or where to go for a casting call, I would greatly appreciate it.

The “all british” actor streak is actually great because it gives the movies consistency and something that hasn’t really been done in movies, but as with Michelle, I have a fantastic ability to create accents and my british accent is uncanny.
