Casting News For OotP
via Veritaserum
News from Enchantment Casting, an agency that represents Harry Potter actor hopefuls, that all open casting and auditions for Order of the Phoenix are now complete. The agency indicated that the roles of Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt have been cast and that they are in the final stages of casting actors to play young Lily, James, Lupin, Sirius, Peter and Snape as per the pensieve scene.
It’s good to know that the pensieve scene will make it in. Finally, we’ll have some marauders! I admit I was surprised to hear that they’re not just going to use Dan Radcliffe to play young James. In that scene in the book, Harry actually mistakes his father for himself when he first enters Snape’s memory, although on closer look, there are differences. Apparently James’ eyes were hazel and his nose was slightly longer than Harry’s. I think it might have been a nice touch for Dan to play James.
The agency also indicated that Marietta Edgecombe and Lavender Brown are not known to be in the film. This goes a long way towards confirming my theory that the script will have Cho Chang betray the DA rather than Marietta. She’s just too small of a character to hire an actress to play her. As far as Lavender goes, she’s not important until book 6, so they’ll probably cast her in that film, but not in Order.

That would take CHo’s character into a different direction. If they go that route, I wonder if they will do the Zit thing. There are two others I cna think of… Since Marietta never really says anything, she could end up being an extra with no lines… I mean hasn’t that been Lavendar and some of the other characters throughout the movies… Also, maybe the list is stolen by Malfoy or something or maybe they cut that whole part (I hope not). It could also be that Marietta is an extra and just isn’t in the office when they try to arrest Harry and Dumbledore. Or maybe Zacharias Smith… that would be funny…. Hmm, I wonder… THe CHO thing would be fascinating… would definately be a reason for them to break up.

Yeah it would be off character for canon Cho, but it doesn’t really matter since Cho ceases to be a character of any importance after book 5 anyways. And no, the filmmakers don’t cast characters unless they have lines. All the extras in the movies are just that, extras. I can’t see why the filmmakers would bother to pay an actress to be Marietta if she doesn’t have any lines. Also, she’s a character who basically serves one purpose in the plot (betraying the DA) and beyond that she’s completely pointless. My main reasoning for thinking the writers will have Cho do the betrayal is because it kills two birds with one stone. It provides a way for the DA to get caught by Umbridge and it provides a reason for Cho and Harry to break up.
My biggest fear: that they’ll cut the DA completely. That would totally suck.

Umm, I don’t know why anyone is asking me this. I don’t have anything to do with casting for the Harry Potter movies; I was merely reporting what I heard about casting for Order of the Phoenix. At any rate, as is stated in the article above, auditions are long over with. Also, it doesn’t appear that Lavender is even in the fifth film. Maybe she will be in the sixth. Here’s my best advice for Lavender hopefuls: first, check and see whether you’re British or not. If you weren’t born in England, Scotland, Ireland, or Wales, give up now. They haven’t so far hired any actors/actresses who aren’t British, and they’re not going to start now, no matter how incredible you are. *cough-chuckle-cough*. After that, I don’t really know what to tell you, since, A) I’m not involved with the Harry Potter movies in any way, shape or form, and B) I’m not involved with the movie industry in any way, shape or form. The best of luck to you in your acting endeavors.

hi, i heard that they were going to cut lavender out, i think i read it on another site were they had a list of the open parts for the fifth and sixth movies. but what i wanted to know is does anyone know how you would go about getting to be an extra in the sixth movie, ya know, not this on but the one after that? cause i don’t look like any of the very few girls roles that will be coming up in it but i just wanna be a face in the crowd or something, but i’ve no clue as to how to go about getting on a list or finding out where auditions are held or anything.
i tried to find out for extras for the fifth movie but nobody writes about them until their over and no offence but that ain’t doing me any good now is it lol? any help or advise would be greats thanks, gemma

i agree about the notice thing, they should definatly give more than 6 days advance, what about all the people in ireland that want to audition, it would cost a bomb to sort out flights.
i think they should have more that 1 audition, but if they did it all over the country every girl would show up, even ones who didn’t really want to act, so i understand that, but it wouldn’t kill them to do one near the north of england/south of scotland and one in ireland. i don’t think that would be too much of a stretch do you guys?

well im already too old for all the students(im 21 boohoo) so the chances of me getting a specific seems slim, but hopefully ill be finished my degree and saved enough money to move to england before all the films are done and hopefully ill be able to be an extra or something, but even if i don’t get in harry potter ill hopefully get into acting when i move over. its soo hard to find out about auditions in ireland because the’re so few of them.

i’ve just found this site now and i think it’s really good. The best site about Potter iformation i’ve found is CBBC Newsround they always tell you if an audition is coming up and you can search for things about acting and extra work and it usually helps. I’ve got the same problem as some of you, the only person out of the Potter movies who i look like is Cho Chang but i missed my chance with that one big time (it’s a long story!!!) I would love to be Lavender Brown, i don’t care about kissing Rupert. It would be embarrassing but i just love acting and would love to be in the movie so i don’t care. I’ve got dark brown hair and i look more english than chinese especially if i have make-up on. I’ve heard from another website that if you don’t look the part they turn you away at the door, however long you’ve queued up for!!! I think this is unfair but does anyone know if this is true??? xxxxxxxx

I also think they should give more notice. At least 2 week, more even. Because people can’t always get hold of transport that quick. My dad says he would take me to the auditions but they’re 5 hours away from where i live and my dad would have to get time off work which he would have to give 1 weeks notice. Then there would be the queue and all that would be for nothing, especially if they do turn you away at the door. I saw in the paper a girl got turned away from Essex but they said she must of misheard them. What a bummer!!!! And you’d get so excited and if you couldn’t get hold of flights or transport it crashes loads of girls dreams. And it would ve devastating. Everyone should try www.bbc.co.uk/newsround then search for open auditions for Harry Potter and if there’s something it comes up with it straight away. I remember the news about the Luna Lovegood auditions came on well before it was announced on any other websites. Good luck to everyonexxxxx

Lavender brown would be awesome to play, but remember she’s meant to get really annoyed at Ron and she dumps him when he’s always with Hermione. I know it would be a fun role to perform, but you would get ‘We love Rupert Grint’ supporters, who would actually believe you were a bitch for dumping him in the movie! - Like it isn’t even part of the storyline or anything! I hope that’s what she’s meant to look like. A lot of people are saying she should have dark hair and dark eyes though, maybe the director will choose what the majority thinks - who knows. The problem is, I’ve got my hair blonde at the moment, and I look a bit like the girl who’s playing Luna, well actually possibly more than a bit. I completely missed the updates for that audition.
And I really think that was the part for me, but nevermind. If I go back to my natural colour, it makes me look completely different. Sometimes people can’t even recognise me, haha! I hope lavender’s meant to be girly otherwise I’ve got no chance. Doesn’t she like giggle a lot too? Whoever ends up playing her is gonna need a lot of strepsals! lol!

Honestly- i dont have a clue, its not even been confirmed if they will hold any form of audition/cast call/ open cast call, for Lavender. It is far to early for them to start casting, they will probably wait till after OOTP is released- like they did for casting of GOB. i think that if there are to be cast calls/open cast calls then NEWSROUND will let us know on there website. but i think it won’t be for a long time yet. - remember that this is only my opinion.

And i have done some looking up about this part and in the 3rd Harry Potter Film a Girl called Jennifer Smith has played her, there havnt been any Auditions about her up yet but all auditions should have been up in Jan.

You dont have to look like the Lavender or Romilda to Audition, as they can change your looks its all mostly about the Acting and the Shape of your body and face.

I don’t think they will cast the same girl from the first movie who played Lavender Brown to her for the 6th film. They will probably cast a new girl. Even they’ll let americans try out i bet. especially if we can best fit Lavender’s personailty. Let’s face it, we can do a british accent just as easily as anyone from england. On that note i am definitley trying out for the part of lavender, as well as flying to london to do it.

Yes if you want a Extra Part or a main part, you must either Find an Agency who thinks your good and wants to take you on or you could wright a letter to Levsden Studios in London, they wont reply but they will keep your audition letter and when they need a character will contact you.

Hi. I’ve been doing some research and it is a fact that JKR in the 6th book hasn’t fully described what race Lavender Brown is. We assume she is British-born as of most of the students in Hogwarts. We do know Jennifer smith was black but there are speculations that open casting auditions for lavender should be held next year. So that anyone of any race can audition, merely on acting ability and passion.
I’m black and i couldn’t audition as luna Lovegood but hopefully as no one really knows what Lavender is supposed to look like, i’d like to give it a go as sooo many people would!!!
Plus they should do all over the UK auditions including London.

I would absolutely love to be in the Harry Potter movies! I have been acting and modeling for eight years, so I know I have what it takes. But there are a few problems. I’m not British, nor have I ever even been to Britain… I know… wow. I’m also only 13. But it would be great to be an extra or something… my parents aren’t into the whole ‘acting’ scene and I know right now that they would never go all the way out across the world for 1 audition that I have a very slim chance of getting. I’m am pretty much obssesed with Harry Potter. I’m on the 6th book and I LOVE Harry Potter. But I am currently doing other auditions, so I’m probably going to do a commercial or something this year. Nothing major. Yet.

OMG I just did some research on the Lavender part and yes, Jennifer Smith DID play her, but only in the third film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they said Smith will not be cast in the upcoming films!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay

Does anyone have any information on the auditions for ANYTHING for the Harry Potter films? Oh yea, and you know what I just found out today? The part of Harry Potter was originally supposed to be Haley Joel Osment, Emily Osment’s older brother! (She plays Lily in Hannah Montana on Disney Channel and Haley played the little boy on the sixth sense, he’s really famous) by Steven Speilburg. But J.K. Rowling said that it needed to be an all British cast and Steven walked away. But Daniel Radcliffe is PERFECT for the part, don’t think I’m putting him down because I think he’s the PERFECT Harry Potter.

I don’t think she’s been cast because Dan said in an interview that they weren’t starting filming for the sixth film until next summer. They didn’t cast Luna until like a few weeks before they began filming so why would they have cast Lavender already? Theses are just my thoughts none of this is definate btw xxxx

to be honest, if all this talk about lavender being taken isn’t true, we’ll know about it in time as they are still filming the 5th film, then when filmings over there are months of post production work and then the film comes out and all that then they think about the 6th film. we should probably get in contact with someone a leavesden or something nearer the time.

i really really realy want to be lavender brown. someone said you have to be born in the uk. i don’t think thats true i think you must be a resident and have the accent. i used to live in america but have been living in england for 7 years and have an english accent. if i bring my english passport and proof of residence to the audition they won’t even know.
i have brown hair brown eyes and im 16. i will definately go to open auditions if they have them.
p.s. according to imdb the script for harry potter and teh half-blood prince is not finished and approved which means tehy can get on with casting. hopefully we’ll get some info soon! good luck to all those that are auditioning!!

Not sure if this has been brought out yet or not, but isn’t there something in the book that says something about Ron and Lavender being so wrapped up that you couldn’t tell who’s hands were whos? Doesn’t that kinda tell us what Lavender Brown is supposed to look like?
Also, I don’t recall Lavender ever having an important role, until the 6th book. So in my opinion, it doesn’t matter who has portrayed her in the past, because no one was paying attention anyway.

Oh and no offence, but when people put on an english accent which isn’t natural, it’s really easy to tell and it kinda pisses the brits off - I should know! In films ya can always tell when an American or Auzzie (or any other nationality for that matter) is playing an English character. I understand why people from other countries would be annoyed at not being able to audition, but bein english myself I can tell you it just looks wrong on screen. When the English mix with Americans on screen especially, it’s kinda odd coz they sound completely different even though they are talking the same language.
