It’s been awhile since I posted any wallpaper on this blog, so here’s a couple that I made recently. The first is a blend of Harry and Ron, showcasing their excellent friendship, and the second is a posterized blend of Hermione as played by the lovely Emma Watson.

The London Telegraph has all the pertinent details and the actual interview.
Excerpt:
“I know I was writing Harry Potter at the moment my mother died,” she says. “I had never told her about [him].
“Barely a day goes by when I do not think of her. There would be so much to tell her, impossibly much.”
It’s not too lengthy, but it’s obvious the death of her mother had a profound effect on JK Rowling the person and the author.

Found this online yesterday, and I thought it might be of some interest to some Potter fans. It’s a page that outlines the lexical differences between the British and American editions of the first four Harry Potter novels. In layman’s terms, those are the different words used by British and Americans to mean the same thing. For instance, here in America the name for a container in which to put refuse or garbage is a trashcan or garbage can. In the UK it’s a dustbin or a rubbish bin.
There are some interesting and surprising substitutions here. For instance, the substitution of the American mail slot for the British letter-box. American kids are not complete morons. I think most of them could figure out that letter-box means a mail box of the type that’s attached to the door of a house, especially given the context (Sorcerer’s Stone, pg.33). We do have those here after all, although they are no longer prevalent. Most Americans’ mail boxes are out at the street in front of their house.
But some of the substitutions do make sense. For instance in the American editions, Mrs. Weasley knits sweaters for her children, whereas in the original British, they are called jumpers. This would have been confusing for most American children since in America a jumper is a type of shapeless dress usually worn by little girls.

There’s an interesting project going on called HarryWiki.com. Basically, HarryWiki is an attempt by fans to beat J.K. Rowling to the punch and have a complete book 7 (or more than one) before she does. The project is open to anyone, so if you think you know how book 7 should be, head on over and write a few chapters or even just write one particular scene. The site’s creators say they will save everything in the hopes of having several different versions of book 7.
I have to say this is a particularly great use of wikis.

Not many posts here lately, mostly due to the fact that Potter news has slowed down considerably since the release of the movie back in November. Hopefully, news will pick back up again once they start filming Order of the Phoenix in February. I’m especially looking forward to casting news which Warner Bros. are keeping tightly under wraps.
