Gawker has a somewhat incriminating photo of Emma Watson (age 15) pantomiming she’s about to take a sip of a bottle of Corona beer. I don’t have any idea of the context, but it looks to me like the kind of photo a teenage girl would take when she’s out for dinner with a group of her friends and their respective mothers.
Others can feel free to disagree.
Gawker also links a very funny YTMND audio/visual mash-up that mixes the photo, tiled, with Jimmy Buffett crooning for Corona.
YMMV

Warner Bros. has released a podcast for the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire DVD. You can subscribe via iTunes.
So far the podcast includes a clip of Daniel Radcliffe doing some of his own stunts for the film along with comments from Dan about the experience. The podcast also contains part 1 of a interview with Dan, Rupert, and Emma by some contest winners.
This is a nice effort by Warner Bros. Sure it’s for promotion purposes, but it’s nice for them to provide something like this for fans.

Now that it’s abundantly clear that Gary Oldman’s manager (and maybe Oldman himself) is a complete prat, and that Oldman won’t be returning for Order, I’ve got a suggestion as to who could play Sirius in the movie.
I was watching The Crucible the other day, and it struck me that Daniel Day-Lewis might make an excellent Sirius Black. Maybe even better than Oldman. And he is english, so no problems there. So, of course, Warner Bros. probably does not read this blog, but it would be awesome if they’d offer him the part. And even cooler if he’d accept it. How about all us HP fans get up some sort of letter writing campaign?

Reports are circulating that at last night’s Book Aid International auction, the hand sketched Black Family Tree was bid on and purchased on behalf of Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. It sold for £30,000 ($52,219). All proceeds of the auction go to Book Aid International, which is a charity with the aim of encouraging reading and literacy.
Dan has always been reported to be a genuine fan of the Potter series, as opposed to many of the other cast members, who haven’t even read the books. Guess this confirms that. Hopefully, he’ll be generous and allow us all a glimpse of the infamous tree. Well, probably not, but one can hope right?

Ok, Potter news kind of slow so I’ll recommend another great fanfic for you all. This one is called With Quill in Trembling Hand, by Ciircee, and it’s another kind of sad one. A really poignant Neville, PoA compliant fic. A little Percy thrown in as well. Rated G.

Well, I just pre-ordered my Goblet of Fire DVD from Amazon. The cost was $21.99 plus $2.98 for standard shipping. Maybe a bit more expensive than it would be down at Wal-Mart, but I’m willing to pay it so that I don’t have to go there and worry that it’s sold out.

Emerson Spartz, the creator of MuggleNet, is celebrating his 19th birthday today. Spartz started MuggleNet when he was just 12 years old, and it has gone on to be the most popular destination on the internet for all things Potter.
I’m a definite fan of MuggleNet myself. Although it caters mainly to young HP fans, it’s a great site with lots to enjoy for people of all ages. Happy Birthday to Emerson, and thanks for creating a great site for Potter fans!

Well folks, I hate to say this but it is looking more and more like Gary Oldman will not be reprising his role as Sirius Black in Order of the Phoenix. The other day, Potter producer David Heyman attempted to quell concerns about Oldman’s role in the film by saying that WB was “in negotiations” with Oldman to appear in Phoenix, but yesterday Oldman’s management released yet another statement denying this and adding that there are “currently no plans for Mr. Oldman to appear in this film”. They also added that Mr. Oldman is “actively seeking other employment”.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I am at this whole thing. Warner Bros. knew that the role of Sirius was vital to this film, and as such, they should have approached him ages ago with a contract. They are now trying to cover themselves with some ridiculous story that it’s not usual to contract actors who aren’t filming until later in the year, which is of course, a bald faced lie. One can only guess what their motivations in not presenting Oldman with a contract are.
Of course it could be complete ineptitude, but my guess is something a bit more sinister. I speculate that Oldman and his management may have indicated to WB that they’d like more money to be forthcoming for his role in Phoenix. And WB, cheapskates that they are, decided they would handle this by leaving Oldman hanging on a string as to his role in Phoenix.
Obviously, this tactic has backfired. What were they thinking? Oldman is a huge actor! Did they really think that he would wait around and then finally cave at the last minute for Harry Potter? And really, I’m pretty positive that Oldman can’t be asking for so much money that WB couldn’t come up with it. Goblet has made $883.8 million dollars for God’s sake. Just give the man what he wants. He’d only be doing this film at any rate.
Things are looking pretty glum indeed for Order. Warner Bros. will have no choice but to cast another actor as Sirius, but I just don’t know how successful that will be. Millions of fans pretty much equate Sirius with Gary Oldman. It’ll certainly put a damper on the film, I guarantee it.

Well, as anyone who follows this blog knows, my “relationship” with fanfic has been stormy at best. But I’ve been enjoying some lately, and I wanted to share this one that I stumbled on today. It’s called “five ways that sirius black never returned from the dead” by allecto. Really quite good, and it made me get teary eyed. I think I might miss Sirius as much as Harry does after all. It’s rated G in my opinion, so no worries.

Posted in Theories at 3:24 pm by RavenclawWit
A recent comment on the Snape, The Hero post prompted me to respond with the following. Since I think it’s a theory that many people hold, I wanted to address it in it’s own post rather than in the comments.
I think Snape was in love with Lily. Actually, we know they had something in common: Potions. According to Slughorn, Lily was brilliant in it and obviously so was Snape. It’s likely they had that class together, especially since Gryffindor and Slytherin always seem to have Potions together. They probably developed a friendship and then Snape developed feelings for Lily. Unfortunately for him, she fell in love with James. Notice too, that Snape constantly insults Harry’s father, but has never said so much as a word about his mother. This could also be the reason that Dumbledore believed Snape when he turned spy for the Order.
However, I don’t know that I buy the whole Voldemort was going to spare Lily for Snape theory for a few reasons. Number one being that it would be extremely out of character for Voldemort to care in the slightest that one of his Death Eaters had feelings for one of his possible victims. In fact, I’d say that would make Voldemort more likely to kill that person, since he doesn’t want his followers to have an allegiance to anything but him. Number two, how could Snape have been privy to this plan? If he truly loved Lily in anything other than a completely selfish manner than he would know that murdering her husband and child would be devastating to her. How could he want to hurt her that way? Three, by the time the Potters were killed, Snape had already turned spy for the Order. (Dumbledore reveals this to the court in the pensieve in GoF) If he became aware that Voldemort was planning on murdering James and Harry, and knew how to find them, wouldn’t he have tried to prevent it, if he is really good?
To me, the only way that this theory of Voldemort intending to spare Lily for Snape’s sake can only stand up if Snape is truly evil and self-serving. Of course that is a possibility. One would have to be pretty evil (not to mention hopelessly mistaken) to imagine dancing with Lily on the graves of her husband and son. But you still run into the problem of it being unrealistic for Voldemort to care about such a thing as love. In fact, that would be a contradiction of nearly everything we know about Voldemort. He disdains love. He sees it as a weakness. It’s unlikely that he would condone or encourage such a weakness in Snape by sparing Lily for him.
I believe there must be some other reason that Voldemort was planning on sparing Lily’s life. What, I don’t know. My best guess is that it was something to do with magic, but that’s just speculation on my part.
