Look At Me, I’m “Enraged”
I’ve been quoted again, this time in a New Zealand story, and frankly I’m a bit peeved about it. They said,
On bloggingharrypotter.com, one enraged fan wrote: ‘I truly feel that for Rowling to kill off any of the trio would reflect a callousness towards children I don’t wish to contemplate.’
I am not “enraged”, nor have I ever indicated that I was “furious” or angry with J.K. Rowling. It’s simply my personal opinion that killing off Harry would be needlessly cruel. However, even if Rowling wipes out the entire wizarding population in the next book, I won’t hate her or anything. I’d be disappointed, but I wouldn’t actually be able to get that upset over what is, when you come down to it, a trivial piece of fiction.

Hey hey hey, wait a minute here people! The lady wrote the books, she’s the creator of this series, so if she feels like killing off characters we should all let her do it. I have faith in her talents as a clever writer and I believe she will make an excellent seventh book.
Peace and Love.

I’ve just found your blog through all the news articles…don’t you love the way they spin stuff?
I agree with your earlier comments - the statement Rowling made does not mean Harry will definitely die. It only means she understands why other authors have killed off their main characters. Honestly, I didn’t think the comments were big news at all. She’s said in the past, “You’ll have to wait and see if Harry makes it to adulthood,” and she’s said in the past that she’s killing people in Book 7. Not sure why the fury over this particular time she said those things.
Nor would it be against the main themes of the entire series to have Harry die. It’s a series about death, for goodness’ sake, and Dumbledore has been teaching Harry how to “die well,” so to speak, for 6 books now. JKR’s been teaching us since book one that “there are things worse than death” (like taking the easy way instead of the right way, like not loving, etc.).

Correct me if I am wrong, but ROwling wrote the damn books, not you. I am more inclined to value her opinion than yours, and she wants to off him, there is no way that can be a mistake. Maybe you will cry in your cheerios for a month, but if a writer of her calibur makes a decision, I know it can only make a more interesting read.

I am a very devoted fan of Harry Potter. I have probably read all of the books at least 10 times. They are usually the only books I will read. Like you, I will be very dissapointed if JKR kills Harry off, but it won’t be the end of the world. I totally agree with you.
Please disregard the fact that I’m only 13. ; )

Why are people critising JK Rowling?? She doesn’t deserve it, she is under constant pressure to keep fans haapy, looking after her kids, I’m suprised she’s still sane! At the end of the day its her story, she created it, don’t go critising her desicions in writting without her writting we would never have had Harry Potter at all! Without the books there would be no fims, and to make them have good plots and be good and unpredictable other than borring. Besides without the films I wouldn’t be able to watch Fred and George Weasly all day! They look soo hot in the 4th film! Now for any REAL fans out there visit this site http://harry-potter-online-club.piczo.com/?cr=5&rfm=y the password is: muggle Its a site for REAL fans who are thankful to Rowling rather than critising her clearly exellent work. If her work wasn’t exellent then this site wouldn’t exist and we would not be having this disscusion.

I can understand why Dumbledore had to die,but to kill off Harry Potter would be an injustice to everyone who has devoted their time and hearts to the books,it was bad enough to have to go through Sirius’ death and to read Harry’s grief and to feel it and the crying through 4 chapters of Dumbledore’s death, was heartwrenching…and the anticipation of this last book is torture…I would would feel as if I was dying also to see any of the trio die…he just got with Ginny,Ron and Hermoine are finding eachother…finally..how sad my heart is already breaking….Kill off Percy and Malfoy and be done with it…I am will always be a devoted fan of the trio…..

Wow you people are obsessed (you are probably the people that stood outside of bookstores all night dressed in witches costumes waiting waiting for the book). There are fans then there are Trekkies. I like all the books they are well written but to actually try to censor what an author should and shouldn’t do is rather outrageous. Actually even giving an opinion before the book is published is outrageous. Perhaps you should wait till it comes out give it some thought than make an opinion. Killing off the characters may in fact be a good ending but I will make that judgement when the book is finally published and I finish reading it.

Okay I have to put my two cents in. Have you ever heard of spoilers people. Sheesh what better why to sell a book then to let out a hint that a main character is to be killed off. You forget that Professor Snape is a main character, as well as Draco Malfoy. She said main character she did not elaborate on what type of main character. There are two; primary and secondary. I will put my money on Snape getting killed by Harry.
Even if she kills off Harry she did write the stories that you all say you love. She started this to please children and now those children are turning on her because they don’t like what they are reading. Well children welcome to the real world that has no muggles, no dragons and no magic. I love her books because I take me away from the stress of the day. She is a fantastic writer, who opens up a new world for other writers to persue. They can do other characters in the same type of world, they would never be the same but no one can write the same but they can have the same ideas.
If you think you can write a story like her then go for it and lets see the critism you get. Get off her back and enjoy the series for how she meant it to be read. People to enjoy a good story.

Um…you’ve also been quoted on Sympatico/MSN…that’s how i found your site!
Who knew? You are so widely quoted!! Not a bad thing!!
Yes, I too had real trouble with Dumbledore’s death. I was in complete denial. I thought:”No way, its a mistake, he’s coming back”. And then the funeral happened, and I knew there was no more Dumbledore.
I had the pleasure/odd experience of reading Books 1-6 back to back. Three-four months of my life were nothing but Harry Potter. I am now so taken by them, I can’t wait for Book 7. I’m an adult and caught myself shopping for a wand on Alivan’s website! Man. If Rowling only knew. Maybe she does. I can identify with her- a witchy creature to be sure!

Right, i think it is the masterpiece and gift of a writer to make its readers feel emotions and go through the mood the book shifts into. It wont be a bad idea in the first place to make readers of harry potter books to go through emotions of loosing the main character. It is up to JKR, who has truely shown her potential of a great writer in the past, to put her amazing skills into one of the best books of this new century.

I understand that fans would be upset if JK killed off Harry Potter and co. But really, it’s just a book and in some stories, the good characters have to die in order to combat evil and save the world. If she does kill of Harry, good on her! Harry has not only been apart of all her readers’ lives, he has been apart of her life as well. It must be hard to kill off any character (and in this case, maybe even Harry) in the series and she has been a brave woman for doing so already!
I think it would be a lovely ending if Harry and Voldemort both died by killing each other. Voldemort would be no more and the muggle and wizard worlds would be safe. As for Harry, he would be re-united with his mom and dad in a better place, and everyone would remember him as being a hero.
But who knows, Harry may not die in the end. JK is a wonderful author and knows what she is doing (she wrote the last chapter to the final book ages ago) and despite what might happen in the end, I know fans will buy the last book and people will continue to read the series - as they are loved by readers, young and old!

I don’t think that *IF* JKR killed off Harry Potter it would be a terrible thing… since the beginning of the series IMO she’s set him up as the tragic hero, and well if the series is coming to an end at book 7, then his fate is pretty well sealed as the tragic hero. It might be interesting if he follows in his mothers footsteps and sacrifices himself to save the ones he loves… maybe if he died that way people wouldn’t overreact to his death the way they are now at the speculation.
JKR has a wonderful mind and she will do justice to the lore and characters she has created, and ultimately its her decision who lives and dies. I would hate for her to compromise her vision of the final book to appease the people who cn’t handle the ( possible ) death of a hero and loved character.
Oh and I really don’t think Dubmledore is dead lol There’s too many little hints in the Snape/Potter dialogue that kinda hints that he’s not actually dead….

I too found this blog through many articles online (such as www.msn.com). It is understandable that people would be upset/disappointed in JK Rowling if she killed off a character. But, it is the last book.. and she has every right to choose what to write. I think it to be ridiculous that one would ‘hate her guts’ from something like this. Obviously you enjoy her writing and that is why you liked all the other books. Perhaps she is trying to show people the natural way of things, and that is, people die. It is also a book, which yes you can get really attached to. But, don’t read the book.. you aren’t obligated to anyways. She should be allowed to write whatever she wants, it is not fair or right that anyone judge her. Plus, perhaps she wants to spice things up because the last book may be awfully boring otherwise and it leaves us anxious and wondering about the last one.. which will result in us wanting to buy it. In any case, don’t judge her. Whatever happened to freedom of creativity?

Who gives a crap if she does or doesn’t kill off the two? Frankly I wish she would kill off the entire range of characters! Uh, guess she is isnt she? Yes, I know, you absolutely llluuuvvv this series but dont you love the way she does it. She had fun, it helped her change her life, for the better, and the world loved her for it. Can you get excited about HOW, or WHY, or WHERE she is going to “off” these two in the story to come? Yezzzz, excellent smithers, excellent!

I don’t understand how everyone is jumping to conclusions! She hasn’t killed anyone yet for all we know, why not save your rude comments for after you read book 7! Poor JK has givin us 6 beautiful books and now people want to assume they know what is going on in 7, well you don’t! I hope you feel really stupid when book 7 comes out and you just love, maybe some of you can write sorry letters to JK for being suck jerks. It is her work and it is art, if you don’t like it make your own ending, you have a mind, use it.

I really don’t think she should kill off Harry, Ron or Hermione because they are the 3 main characters and I think alotta fans would be upset by that. I’m not saying she’s gonna kill off one of them but I don’t think she should kill off them. Even though Harry Potter is fiction, I still think she shouldn’t do it because Harry Potter is one of the most successful movies out there and I am a big fan of Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter). It would be very heartbreaking. I guess she can do w/e if she wants, but I hope she doesn’t kill off any of them.
P.S. The Goblet of Fire is def. gonna be the best film. I don’t care too much for the other ones that are gonna come out. They’ll probably suck, especially The Order of the Phoenix.
