Rowling Grapples With Airport Security
via Newsvine
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had a close call with airport security officials in New York, the author revealed on her website Wednesday. Officials initially tried to prohibit her from taking the unfinished manuscript of book 7 on board as carryon baggage, asking her to check the item instead. Recent terror alerts have heightened restrictions on carryon baggage.
Rowling was in New York August 1st for her charity reading at Radio City Music Hall with authors Stephen King and John Irving.
The author refused to part with her manuscript, saying, “A large part of it is handwritten and there was no copy of anything I had done while in the U.S.”
Ultimately security officials cleared the item for carryon, allowing her to take it on board bound up in elastic bands.
