It’s a dishy kind of Tuesday afternoon, so I’m playing entertainment reporter today:
Daniel Radcliffe’s love woe
He told Newsweek magazine: “Gold diggers always a worry. But I’ve good pretty good instincts for people. Normally, the people who are not genuine are the ones who say, ‘You know I’m not just being your girlfriend because you’re Harry Potter, right?’ And it’s like, ‘Uh, fine, but if that’s the case, why do you need to say that?’”
Sounds pretty level-headed to me.

Two competing stories today, one from the LA Times, one from the BBC, both concerning a joint team of British and US scientists who have created an invisibility cloak.
Some great pull-quotes:
We’ve opened the door into the secret garden
- Prof John Pendry, Imperial College London
and
“It’s a very good achievement,” physicist Ulf Leonhardt of the University of St. Andrews in Britain told Science. “It’s surprising that it’s as simple as it is and that it works so well.”

Is JK Rowling going to let Disney make theme park attractions out of her Harry Potter books/characters/franchise?
Seems likely.
Toward that end, Disney officials very quietly began talks with J.K. Rowling, the acclaimed author of the “Harry Potter” series. And after months of negotiations, Rowling finally signed a letter of intent. Which then awarded the Walt Disney Company the right to begin preliminary development of a theme park-related project featuring the Harry Potter characters.
A letter of intent isn’t a contract, but it’s serious.
What moments from any of the books would make good theme park attractions?

From PR Leap:
“The Harry Potter series is famed for having opened up an entire generation to reading,” says Conference Chair Elanor Isolda. “Now, those of us who derive pleasure from reading have the opportunity to assist those who are not fortunate enough to have access to books.”
All of this is happening around Sectus 2007, a Harry Potter conference taking place next Summer in London.

A plaque has been installed at the former cafe where JK Rowling wrote part of the first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (nee Philosopher’s) Stone.
Her plaque joins plaques honoring/commemorating Robert Louis Stevenson and poet William McGonagall
The plaque, which is accompanied by a photo, reads:
JK Rowling wrote some of the early chapters of Harry Potter in the rooms on the first floor of this building.

Slashfilm is reporting that Dobby the House Elf is a casualty of the cutting room floor/editing/time constraints in the Order of the Phoenix.
From Slashfilm:
In the fifth book, Dobby is the one who reveals to Harry the secret of the Room of Requirement. The house elf later appears to warn Harry that the secret hideout is no longer safe from the school’s Ministry of Magic informant and new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dolores Umbridge. The first of the two plot points is critical in the story’s plot, so I’m sure they’ll use another character in the role, much like the consolidation of characters in the last film.

At the request of one of our members, I’m going to post some more wallpapers. If I had known people liked them, I would have kept posting them here. The first one is an Order of The Phoenix wall I did, the second is one of Dan Radcliffe I made for my cousin. I’m hoping to make some more once some good Order of the Phoenix pictures come out.

A story I’ve covered previously continues with another chapter (book?).
Harry Potter and the state of Georgia.
Long story short: The State of Georgia heard oral arguments today challenging the Gwinnett County School Board’s refusal to ban Harry Potter from school libraries.
